SHARK was the first Nuc Sub I ever put foot on, she was the boat on lower base we were given a tour on during Subschool in '79. I probably met Mr. Snowden and don't even realize it.
Also, she was my Chiefs Qual boat in '68. I should reach out to see if he has any pic's.

She has a special meaning for me and that's probably why I think SKIPJACK class when the word "Sub" pops in my head. Also why that darn DeBoer is still my favorite boat. It just say's "Sub" when ghosting along.

You should ask Tom about "Hogans Alley", a term that refers to a section of the Enlisted Crews berthing aboard her.

Sadly, the only memento I have...

Here are some great images that were emailed to me from a gentleman by the name of Tom Snowden STS3/SS. He was aboard the USS Shark from '77 through '80. Figured some of you would find these images as fascinating as I did.

The full flying stern planes is a huge design flaw alright, I already had to repair the starboard stern plane thanks to UPS, and now l have to also do the port stern plane due to a catastrophic failure of my WTC that caused my boat to completely sink to the bottom of the Frio river and crash into some rock, almost shearing off my lower rudder as well.

Fortunately, it wasn't deep where l was at and l managed to recover it, but for anyone who does buy a Deboer Skipjack,, you definitely need to consider making fixed horizontal stabilizers for it like Ed Tordahl did for his USS Shark.

Accurate or not, the Deboer hull makes a beautiful boat and l really loved the way she cruised on the surface.......juuuuuust before she sank out of sight......lol.

By the way, Bob has a few videos out on YouTube that has footage of my boat including one that he made after he finished refitting it for me.

Beautiful boat but it's now in drydock undergoing repairs.
Hoping to get her back in the water soon though.
Dennis based the tooling on the flawed Wessweiser (spelling?) drawings -- but that's all that was in the public domain when he did the work. Profile is a bit off, and the model features full-flying stern planes not a fixed horizontal stabilizer and stern planes.

Nice Paintwork, I don't think I ever have seen in person one of Debore's kits. Nice Size, do a post on your repairs Jim.
