How I start a New Year!!!!!

Fire is out, Reflash Watch is set, all compartments ventilated, Class Charlie fire report pending.

Material loss: one charging unit; one 11.1-volt Lithium-polymer battery; one pair of soiled shorts; and one expended dry retardant fire extinguisher.

Secured from Fire. Time for my hideous evening salad. Ellie missed one hell of a show.

Lesson learned: Never leave the shop while charging one of these Chinese made chemical bomblets!

David, glad you're OK, lipo batteries are pure chemical bombs when not propper used, i guess in your chase you had a bad produced one, in the past i had some puffed one's inside my torps, glad i have the procedure to check them on a timely base otherwise i had a burned out underground cave.
Question, was it a new Lipo?, or was the charger going wild on this one.
Is that my old 212 on the rafters, if so, she has been properly weathered now.

            Manfred.

Get yourself a.Pyrex bowl, and place any charging batteries in there. You can store them in the same bowl if you wish.

if the batteries are getting a bit puffy I tend to lower the charging rate to 0.5c or less, I never charge lipo higher than 1c even if the manufacturer suggests higher.

Me too, Andreas. I'll check into Andy's idea today. Good stuff. But, this morning, it's clean-up time in the shop -- only a half-days work me thinks. Film at Eleven!

An excellent example of money well spent by the USN on sending guys like us to Firefighter Training and feeding us franks & beans- the ship is saved!!! Still very leery of any battery that has Li in the name. Charging and storage are always on the basement floor slab, clear of all combustibles, and storage is in a battery bag at the same spot. I still like NIMH batteries!

Glad all is gonna be well! A bit of field day and you will be golden!! Does it stink like the magic smoke from an overcooked lawn tractor diode pack???

                      Very glad you are ok!!!

                      Take care,

FET's and diodes have a very pungent 'magic smoke' flavor to them. Lithium and its electrolyte produce Hydrogen Floride gas when burning -- noticeable but not as 'smelly'.

I store 'em outside the house. Each ammo-box is outfitted with a 'blow-out plug'.

So it's no longer advisable to charge/use this despite the good readings I get with the lipo tester?
