Model Sub Builder Gentleman Jim Hoyle passes away.

Model Sub Builder Gentleman Jim Hoyle passed away Wednesday November 20, 2024, It was pleasure knowing you the short happy times I shared at local regattas. Innovative, artistic, fun to sail models with. He had some remarkable models.

His 1/8th Italian or British pig 2-man sub scaled to the Matel 'Ken dolls' and the diving suits he fashioned. I remember he said he had a doll dress maker at some small expense make the model's diver suits.

He is the man that created the ALVIN submarine master & original model before he sold the patterns to FX Models becoming a popular model kit. Lived in or near Sacramento California. We will miss you.

As it should be -- old fallen wood must be cleared away so the seed can grow.

        But, there is a problem.

For the first time in civilized society, we have come to the point where there are near zero understudies; ever growing reliance on robots; loss of work-ethic; and institutional abandonment of the Crafts (schools, clubs, YM/YWCA and the now defunct 'boy' scouts). It all dies with us. Enjoy the ride while you can, guys -- they shut down the park for good once we're gone.

I had the pleasure of corresponding with Jim a lot when I bought his Stickleback off him. He sent a lot of information on his Alvin build as well. A very talented builder and a great guy.
