    Mike Dory will be missed.

I am sad to report, Mike Dory passed away at 5am pst today.
Mike is one of the originals in our industry and a friend. Always wanting to help and promote our hobby.
The gas torpedoes were founded by this man. He had great stories to tell and a lot of knowledge.

This is the last time I got to meet with Mike face to face. I am not sure if he ran a sub again after this day. What a loss, but I know he is in a better place.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

I, and so many others, stand on the shoulders of guys like Mike Dorey. A champion of this hobby and one of the very few who guided the America's during the 'golden age' of r/c submarining.

Mike Dory and Skip Asay. My condolences to Mikes family. A mentor and teacher and fun to be around. My text said he passed away peacefully at 5 am today too. A Pioneer that showed the way for the rest of us.

Some of his boats shown below from years ago on one of several 'foreign port' visits for battery charging before a local regatta. :). He liked my little shop; he said it was valuable for checking and making little repairs if a model had a bump while traveling, he always said. Back lower right is Duaine Hills 1/48 Seawolf topping off.

Mikes 1/32 type 23, 9 & 7. he eventually gave these away to good owners after a cancer scare. He survived to remain with us for some time more thank goodness. I never saw him again since, but it was always good knowing he was around. See you on the other side someday I hope too. Salute.

Did not know Mike personally, just through bits and pieces of information on the Nautilus forum. Based on what I have seen and heard, he must of been a fine gentleman. My condolences to Mikes family.

I’m so sorry to hear about Mikes passing. I had the great pleasure to meet Mike several times, and knew that I was privileged to meet a true legend. Rest in peace, Mike and fair sailing.

Mike was a great help to me in the early days. Always loved his calm and patient personality. Here are our boats out in Cerritos, Ca. His type 7 and my British S class. Both in 1/32 so a great day to compare the similar designs and dimensions.
                Will miss you buddy,
