New Toy For The Swimming Pool

It's exactly what it looks like! I am currently working on the design and print files for a small (approximately 40" long) remote controlled shark. The shark will be fabricated using my Dremel 3D40 printer and white PLA.

I will be sharing (as I always do) build information and photos as the project moves along.

Tonight, I am running some trail runs on some of the parts to get the correct height adjustments, along with the infill and wall thickness adjustments.

Tonight, I finished up the right side of the body containing the gill openings.

The three parts that I have completed were fabricated to give me an idea as to whether or not I have a good viable build. These are sample parts that have given me an idea as to wall thickness, any height restrictions as to what my printer will allow me to build. Also, the photo on the right shows the location of the thruster mount and the opening size for the thruster that I will be limited to.

I realize that some will say it's not going to work! Because there is just not going to be enough water movement through the gills to make it a viable radio control shark! But remember this shark is only 40" long.
As with a lot of my submarine building and the WTC compartments I have designed and fabricated from scratch to use in them did not always perform. And it's possible this could be another one of those projects that may fall into the same scenario.

The way I look at this project is the only way one learns is to just step in it and push a head! I will keep posting as this endeavor moves forward!

I am working on fabricating two new shroud covers to fit the shroud mountings. I also have two props coming (CW and CCW)

Looks like the files from CG Trader from the guy in the Netherlands who ripped off my design. He acknowledged he got the idea from me. I can't complain. He found the void and filled it.

I am, however, working on production of my RC shark kit with a partner overseas. Hoping for updates soon.

              Bob,

I certainly hope this is not a problem for you that I have used his files (I found them on Cults) If posting this build up on Nautilus Drydocks is a problem, I will cancel my build blog out right now! I take exception to your statement that he ripped you off You put your YouTube build out there for everyone to see! He did acknowledge he got the design from your photos and went from there! It's a case of "should a would a" on your part!

Do to the size reduction from 100% down to the current 65%, has presenting a very little problem with the printing. By using a high quality Dremel PLA and printing at 100% infill, it has created a very strong shell and quality exterior finish. Next, we start on the tail fins and dorsal fins...

Rob, absolutely do not hesitate to use the files with the project or post your progress here. I appreciate you offering to take the blog down. That was not my intention in the slightest.

By ripped off, I simply mean he took my design and engineered solutions used it for profit on his side. That's a bit sketchy in my opinion. I'd be way more open to this having happened if he was sharing the files for free.

That will teach me to share my projects in such detail in the future, I guess...

                        Bob,
David has always shared his work in details. If you want you can list yours for sale at a comparative price or offer it for free. If this is not your files in any way, then it is flattering that he was inspired by you.
it is kinda a pi$$er though.

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

                          Bob,

I Totally agree with what Tom has just stated here! You have put your heart and soul into this hobby for all of us to use and benefit from. And I do realize that for you there is that thin line where it is also your lively. hood! I for one look forward to your weekly YouTube presentation with gusto! I really appreciate the way you present all your work and ideas. As Tom said, you should be flattered that people are being inspired by what you do. Look at it this way, look at what you and David M. and others have turned this wonderful hobby into! And seems to be growing steadily bigger and bigger...

Before I start on putting the shark together, I have to go through the two motors that I hope to use and check them out.

As you can see from the top photo, the wiring connections need some attention. I will be resoldering any connections that require it, and then cover them with heat shrink.
