Nope, my Skipjack is very stabile surfaced and submerged. David can vouch to that.

Now if you saw that innards of the sail on my Marlin, that really caused stability issues. She leaned over in surfaced turns. But, I added more weight and a bit more foam and she is much better.

Will be running both at Groton.

Ken, I really enjoy looking at your work.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Thanks Tom. Like wise. Yes an admirer from my Marlin build in 2011.

Thanks Ken! An atrophied neuron in my brain fired off when I was reading your description. I recalled seeing that boat (and sail) when we met in Groton. My Skipjack sail is similar in many ways - not sure if you recall but I also use a microcontroller to turn the LEDs (masthead light and sub ID beacon) on/off based on periscope position. The microcontroller is (obviously) in the WTC and reads RX servo outputs and a grounding signal from a magnetic relay at the base of the sail to know what to do.. I really like how you engineered the running lights to pop open (or closed).

A side-step here, if I may. Some may find the genesis of this kit interesting:

Moebius 1:72 Scale SSN Skipjack: Development and R/C Conversion – Part 2 | Hampton Roads Scale Modelers

After receiving, scanning, and correcting the tooling, the Chinese sent me and Mobius test shots for final approval. Here's Ellie unpacking our test shot. We were very pleased that (for the most part) they got it right! The rest is r/c submarine history.

I visited you and Ellie as you were working on it and yes I did purchase one albeit under the Revell brand. I bought a Bob's produced fittings kit later on which was garbage compared to the ones you produced!!

Yes sir. That was fun. Ellie and I enjoyed meeting and getting to know kindred spirits. Stay safe on those two wheels, pal.
