    Got it from this website

The Holland No.5 submarine is a remarkable piece of our naval heritage. She was the first submarine to actually be commissioned in the Royal Navy, on the 19th January 1903 at the same time as Holland No.3. The NAS has been involved in recording and researching the wreck since 2008. Discover more here...

That's an awesome foto which would have saved me quite some time. So I might redo the cowling again....that's my current version:

I beleive the periscopes on the four boats were all slightly different, certainly differences between Holland 1 and Holland 5, the latter I believe got the first one.

Here's an image of Holland 1 periscope base.

Took a while to get the cowling for the periscope right. I first drew the cowling according to the periscope drawings, but that would have lead to a collision between actuator lever and cowling when the periscope is lowered. Then I modified the cowling according to the Lambert plans. Better, but still a collision and still no match to the photos of the original. So some more modifications without drawing but common sense. Now it's about right. Finally I integrated it into the hull...

Continuing the work with the periscope. This was a unique design by Captain Bacon in which the scope wasn't raised vertically bit tilted upwards like a mast. For that and the rotation the scope was routed through a huge ball bearing with a circular seal in the front plate of the periscope cowling. The raising and lowering was achieved using a manually driven worm gear that rotated a cogwheel that ran along a circular cog rail. The turning of the scope was again achieved using a manually actuated worm gear.

As I wrote in another thread about my CAD models...I'haven't decided what to do with them yet. Just releasing them for free doesn't feel right after the years of work that I put into them. I'd lov to see them used in making proper plastic kits, so if Bronco, Trumpeter, Revell, etc. are willing to take them, I'd be happy to sell them. But I have no connections in the producing part of this community and I'm currently not actively searaching. With respect to 3D-printing: The models are not print ready. So just putting them onto an 3D print portal doesn't seem right. And with respect to computer games....I've been contacted about that once or twice before. But again, just handing out several years of work so that others can make money from a game that I'm not even playing....

Impressive work, I hope this model will be available when it is finished as it would make possible many recreations in computer games and help preserve the history of this vessel.

Working on the plumbing.....I'm currently designing the water piping. The arrangement is based on the John Lambert plans, which are quite detailed about the section in blue, but as I'm missing a true piping plan, most hoses will end in the nowhere. Does anyone have more information about the water and air piping in the HMS Holland 1?

Creating these CAD models I can easily spend 1-2 days modeling a manual piston water pump from 1900....

Fitted the remaining air tanks and started modeling the holding brackets. Also added the spanner rack on the port forward compensating tank.....slow work.
