    Groton Event next month (?)

Looks like the Groton event will go down next month on the 21st-22nd (Saturday and Sunday). This is tentative as I've been informed that Public Works is not sure if the lake will have water in it by then!

    No... seriously. Stay tuned.

LOL. Yeah, I know. But it's not our guys fault -- the event organizers, Joe Oliver and Ray Mason -- they put in a request for lake-time nearly a year ago and it took all this time for the base to receive all reservations and announce what openings remained for the summer months of operation.

And again, as Joe cautioned, there is still the issue of if the lake will be filled with water by time of our scheduled event. Joe is on top of this and when he knows, we'll know.

Me? I'm getting my boats ready! I'm looking forward to seeing your paint-work this year, Ken.

Oh, man... I've got plans that weekend or else I'd really love to be there again. Guess it doesn't matter, as they don't allow us Canucks on the sacred ground anyway...

Haven't heard a peep, one way or another. And I live here!!! We've had some good rain of late and more to come by then for sure, but that doesn't mean they'll capture it by then!!! That's how the lake refills. The little stream that runs off the hill. Maybe I'll drive over and scope it out sometime this coming week.

Just schedule another tour of a super-secret submarine on the ultra-high security ringed lower-base, and when no one's looking, sneak inland and we'll meet you at the lake. Nothing to it!

I hear you Casey. But dem's da wrules of the base Commander. Not Ray or Joe's doing. As you can appreciate, everything tightened up on military reservations since 9/11. We're lucky to get access as it is.

I'm as much a government-can-kiss-my-ass sort of guy as you; and, yes, I hate handing out my SSN and other vitals, but it's what we gotta do to get access to the best god-damned r/c model submarine running site on the East coast, happening within the most iconic submarine base in the whole frig'n World!

So, **** you, you old fart. I'll put you up in my room during the event (be cautioned: if you snore and/or fart too much they'll never find the body!), so that takes care of that. Gas up your car, get your boat ready, load up the ice-chest with food and drink, and come play with the other children, you cantankerous, right-wing, gun loving, peace keeper, you!

Thanks for the offer, but too far. Besides, if we spend too much time together their might be violence.

Red Clay Resort, Subfest, is a 12 hour drive for us. We stay at a half way point and make it 2-6 hour drives. Tom Chalfant goes to Subfest from Las Vegas! Groton is closer for us than Subfest, only a 4 hour drive. Wouldn't miss either cause of the drive. Just meeting and hanging out with like minded model builders is worth it. Hotels at Groton are much closer to the lake than those at Red Clay. Cannot beat the group dinners and breakfast we have at Groton. The nice sandy beach and a nice pavilion are great. Of course look forward to hanging out with David is awesome. Just wish there were more events like this on the east coast.

Where is the closest airport to Groton? Disregard. It’s Providence and I’m not spending $500 round trip.
