    S.m. U-1

Some on the board might remember that I once built a 180 m long model of the S.M. U-1, Germany's first military submarine from 1906. As it resembles the original boat pretty well, there are many shortcomings when it comes to accuracy of the hull shape. Bothered me....as I still think that the boat was a beauty, I started to employ my since then improved CAD skills to give the boat another shot, at least on CAD level. Here's the first draft....

The transition from the flat side decks into the bow is a vry tricky thing and I think most models got it wrong. I stared at the few fotos available and think, that I got pretty close. Also the transition on the stern section is very tricky. Using the only plans available and the few cross sections in it, I think it must have looked like in my draft. Otherwise there would have been no way to fit the pressure hull below the outer hull.

So 'll continue improving that model and see where that gets me.

    Cheers Andreas

    P.S.
The unapproved post in the Build section can be removed....

    Looking forward to it Andreas,

I don't know if you were watching my U-23 build. Have you found any interesting hydrodynamic tendencies whilst underwater? I have found that the stern planes are really ineffective and I've had to put cheater fins on. Would love to see some underwater pics of your boat.

Yes, I watched your build. Remember the discussion about the top rudder? With respect to submerged maneuverability the U-1 is even worse, as the rudder is not located behind the props but ahead of them. So turning is a mess a well. Stern planes are a joke as well....

Nice. What’s the progress on the Type XXIII? Waiting for more.

Hi, how many polygons/vertices am i looking at at the current stage?

                  Are you using Autodesk?

I have no clue how many polygons...this is just a simple photo render with grey surface. I use Viacad Pro

I see. I am not familiar with that program, however it seems a good platform reading user feedback's. Another question: You used Savöx servos on your Neptune in-the-wet, how do they perform?

                      Have a nice weekend!
