I missed the last dive tribe meet (I was at Seattle Comicon working) but I watched it last night and was Interested that Gantu (spelling?) mentioned Schaffer models and the possibility someone in Germany has the molds and is still producing them. I don't know too much about them. It was a German company that was active in the 1980's to 90's. I have never seen one in real life but I have one of their catalogs. They made a type VIIb and VIIc, IXc and XXI (maybe more that aren't in my book). They are all 1/40th scale which is uncommon in the US but popular in Europe. They look extremely nice. In the era of 32nd parallel and scale shipyards very basic hulls the Schaffer models have rivets and panel lines and lots of fine details molded in. They also look to have very nicely made running gear. Has anyone here had any experience with these models?

You mentioned that he is or was still selling the type IX. Do you know anything more about that? does he have a web site?
Thanks

Looks really nice. It does look to match the pictures in the Schaffer catalog. It should be 192cm long. Maybe you can update with more info when you get it?

Interesting. Well maybe they will turn up one day. I remember these boats where pretty expensive when they where new. I think my interest in them stems from the fact that at the time when I ordered the catalog I was in my early 20's I had a very low budget and thought I would never be able to afford them.
