    688i Propeller Ring?

General question - did all of the 688i's have a propeller ring like this one?

Was the ring added for cavitation reasons or because of a towed array?

Not cavitation, but tip losses. And yes they could save the tow in a tight, low-speed turn or if the boat has to back down (In both cases, if possible, they would reel the two in first)

I suspect -- but have never heard any authoritative confirmation -- the ring worked to stiffen the blades as the I's were upgraded to do under-ice work (the class design shift from fairwater planes to retractable bow plane).

Thanks David. I just learned something new. Good cat and mouse game in that video. The maneuverability of those subs is impressive.
