    3D Printed Sub Chaser "194"

I am starting a little different project that somewhat ties into what we do here! I am going to 3D Print an RC Sub-Chaser Boat. The one that I have files for is listed as the Sub-Chaser "194"! Here is the photo of that Boat!

Click image for larger version Name:	Sub Chaser.jpg Views:	0 Size:	65.4 KB ID:	143241

I will be using my Predator and Dremel printers for the build! I will be using Solutech white PLA plus. This build consists of 56 parts, and when finished will be 36" long with a beam of 5.5"! The original Boats where build totally from wood (very similar to the PT Boats of there time)

If anyone is interested I have listed the web site for this type of Boats with lots of history. I am going to be working this project and my Moebius Skipjack at the same time, which means I will be bouncing back and forth on both builds. I will have lots of photos of this build as it moves forward! Bob Martin gave me the go ahead on this build, but to keep it a blog unto itself!

Note; If you go to "Patrol Craft Sailor Association" and under Sub Chaser they have a great amount of history about these Boats!

I am having to use my Predator on this first hull section because it is a little over 12" long! The next sections will be in the 5" to 6" range! I am using 100% infill on the hull in order to help in the sealing process.

Today I have made some headway on the control and propulsion system.

On the Rudder bushings I used a simple build your own water tight seal application that Bob Martin (Nautilus Drydocks) put together on a YouTube on how to do it for Submarine application and in this case a Surface runner Boat.

On the propulsion system, I am using two small brushed motors that will be installed into a cradle I designed on Simplfy3D Cad works! The prop shafts are two extra 1/8" shaft Stuffing tube kits that I got from Harbor Models Inc. Everything is tact glued in place and will be secured in place with Z-Poxy fiber glass and resin ounce lined up!

I fabricated a servo tray to house two 9g servos, one for each of the rudders!

              Thanks Steve!

I needed this break-a-way from Sub building! It's not as challenging a build as a Sub! I will be starting my Skipjack SOON! Looking forward to it.

Looked like you guys really had a great time at the Sub-Fest! Really some great photos of your Nautilus! I am looking forward to your NEXT build!:-))

The Sub Chaser is in it's final stages! Starting to put the deck together along with my first coat of primer on the hull.

Tomorrow I will begin the final finish work on the hull! (sanding, more primer, and more sanding) I did put primer on the interior of the hull as well. I may or may not put a seal coat of resin on the exterior of the hull!?
I think with a couple more primer coats and then the final enamel finish it should be enough to seal out the water. This boat was built for swimming pool operation only, and if it hits the pool ounce a week for 30 min. at a max. I do not think leaking will be a problem. (NOT SURE WHAT THE vBulletin MEANS)

Today I put the Sub Chaser to the water! The water line was right on with all the electronics and battery on board. No leaks after 30 min. on the water!!

Tomorrow I finish up the primers and sanding. Most likely start the final color finish on Thursday, install the electronics on Friday and total finish over the week-end! This was a fun project, and it did get me off Subs for awhile, but I am looking forward to my first fully loaded Submarine build. Skipjack!
