Hey! I'm here to learn as well, Tim.
There are situations where a store-bought blade or file face is unsuitable for a specific task -- the geometry of the work precludes use of a straight blade edge or file face to cut or abrade away material. The solution is to bend your hand-tool to a shape that will accomplish the task at hand.
Simply take the tool to a red heat, bend as required, and get to work.
And you may find that a stock blade is not suitable for a task. In such a case I use the store-bought blade as a 'blank' and grind and hone the blade to a shape suited to the task. A good example of this is the re-shaping of a #11 X-Acto blade into a pull-scrapper -- in this case a tool to undercut a length of square stock to give it the sectional form of a 'T', representing American submarine external safety-track.
A set of #11's have been ground into specialized chisel points. These needed to form these sail vent louvers. (Incidentally, this is the master that later gave form to the tool that produced the sail for the 1/72 THRESHER model I'm currently assembling).

I literally just had a customer's SUB10 blow up just like this again, too, David. Happened on Wednesday.
I'm going to reach out and see what the hell is up. We had this issue a few years ago, too. Looks like MTroniks is taking shortcuts in QC. I'm going to need to source a new line of products, unfortunately.

But to be fair, with the rare exception, I love their stuff!
