          Hi David,

I have a question I am sure you can help me with. I did not want to open up a whole new blog for just this question.

The photos show the electronics box that I am using on my Shark Build. I am experiencing a leak and I have found the source. Were the 6 wire cable comes through the connector I see water coming through the casement around the wires. I know we have talked about this on Dive Tribe a few times and that it is possible for water to penetrate through this type of wiring situation.

My question to you! Is there a type of sealer that can be put on the cable and the silicone wires coming out of the of cable to stop the water penetration? Or is there a better answer to solve this problem that you might suggest?

I really appreciate your help and any suggestions you could offer up. I did not want to slap a bunch of silicon on the wires until I asked you.

          Thanks, David,

          Rob

No problem posting here. I don't give much of a damn about forum etiquette, other than good, solid information is exchanged between us. This thread is not sacred; it's a catch-all as far as I'm concerned. How other members feel about the threads/topics they author are used... ask them.

As I understand it, you're getting water in 'around' the various wires bundled in the grommet, not 'in' the individual wires (water seeping in between conductor and insulator).

            Here' what you do:

On the wet side of the grommet pinching the wire bundle together, slather an ugly pile of RTV gasket-maker/adhesive, and pull a vacuum within the water tight box. This will pull the RTV into the little voids that were the pathways of water into your box. Break the vacuum and wipe away the excess RTV from the wet side of the box. Give the thing a day for the RTV to cure hard. Test. Will the box now hold a slight vacuum?

Go forth and sin no more!

                  Thank you, David,

I just knew, if there was an answer you would have it. I have ordered the RTV sealant and will apply as per your instructions, and I will keep you posted as to the results.

                  Thanks again David....

Hell. Grab a tube of the stuff from any box-store, harbor freight, or automotive parts dealer.

                      Just for you David.

Just about got this shark done. Needs some more trim work. Getting it just right is really time consuming, back and forth weight here foam there. Just about there.

                      Thanks again David!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.
