Are you expecting the Type XXI to be at waterline with that size tank? (I am not saying it won't, it looks small)

It is small, but enough for that model. During the hull layup I went with three laminates of ten-ouch cloth for the lower hull and only two layers for the upper hull. That resulted in a much less dense above waterline structure than that below. Including the hollow cast sail the above waterline structure represented only a bit over three ounces of water displacement. That's all this models ballast tank has to hold to destroy the reserve buoyancy needed to unfloat the boat.
