Would "motor in the wet" be applicable for a 1/72 Revell Type VII or IX?

Very short. some nasty sound indicates need for replacement. I did that with revell models as a kid. Would not do that again.

This is not a promising engine installation.

Romel, you need to do practical work. Build a boat from the start and run it. Find solutions instead of asking what might work or what could work better. Trial and error it is!

As an unschooled 'practical engineer, the only way I can get a mechanism to work properly is through the process of try something and alter the arrangement till the system works as intended. Elon Musk has made popular the word 'iteration'; his method of achieving flight-qualified hardware. Same thing -- build it, run it till something breaks, fix the broken part, run it again. Keep up the process till the desired performance is achieved and call it a day. I've run these cheap ass little can motors in the wet for years. When they ****-the-bed I just pop a new one in there. I got hundreds of these little things, left over from our Caswell days.

As for our friend, Romel. "Yeah!, what Jorg just said!"

Small spray of WD40 in the can will preserve them for some time. I used to build tiny rc boats as a kid by putting the prop directly on the shaft and gluing the motor to the bottom of the hull.
                  Hull looks great Dave...

Is the heat lamp to cook the oil paint to dry quicker?
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Heat promotes quicker 'drying'/curing of putties, fillers, primers, paints, and most weathering agents. Almost all of these mediums undergo a state change -- transitioning from liquid/paste/gel to solid -- as a consequence of polymerization: a chemical reaction takes place within the applied medium that causes the molecules of the medium to link up from single, to long chains. Epoxy, polyurethane, and other two-part mediums start the polymerization process once the base material is mixed with a 'hardener' or 'accelerator' (basically, a catalyst). Once mixed, a two-part medium creates heat, that process described as an exothermic reaction. That heat drives the mediums molecules to cross-link into a solid.

Hence the external heat I apply -- to quicken the cure of the mediums.

Those heat-lamps a testament to my unyielding impatience and refusal to sit patiently waiting for paint to dry; grass to grow; Lawer's to tell the truth; and to find an adequate number of female types to successfully do a man's job correctly (I'm looking at you, Secrete Service, Police, and Fire services).
