Hull as the WTC examples needed

Hi!

I've successfully converted a 1/144 SSN22 to RC, using an acrylic WTC and ballast system, all scratch-built.

I've failed to convert a 1/72 Revell VIIC. Couldn't find the propper balance between ballast, righting, speed, control. Now I'd like to try using the hull as the WTC, using screws and the lid for tightness. I know it is not the best option but as said, the "classic" way failed here.

How can I find all the published articles of RC convertions using this approach?

Crickey! I have to think that the WTC route would be a way better choice for that boat. If you're not going to grab a ready made cylinder specifically designed for the boat, at least have the decency to steal the setup of the stock cylinder in terms of size, ballast tank, etc so that you can build one of your own. It works. Trust me.

Maybe you could do what Bob suggested, make your own wtc. With your experience with your Seawolf build I'm sure you'll have no problem. Here are the measurements of the 2" subdriver for the Type VII.

2" outside diameter X 15.25" long,
Ballast Tank - 5.375"
Battery Comp. - 3.125"
Aft Dry Space - 5.625"

Why not just make a smaller version of your Seawolf WTC.

Just noticed how close to center your actuating rod is on the center gear. I'll have to change mine and see if it tightens up the turning radius. Mine has a rather large turning radius for the size of the model.

Yup. You want as much rudder throw as possible.

David, your SD installation takes advantage of the kit hull's flexibility to be able to slide the 2" SD through the narrow opening under the deck. Avoids making cuts to the hull at cost of working through a narrow opening.

Anyway, there was a rather nice technique I saw at another site that involves cutting the hull vertical to ease installation of the WTC.
