I so sorry to hear about the loss of Chris. He was a valued member of the forums here. My wife lost her mother to a brain hemmorage as well a few years ago.

As a few members here recommended, I would be more than happy to help you find new homes for Chris' fleet of boats. I am about as well-connected in this hobby as a person can get, and I'm well aware of the fair market value of submarines. If you want to snap some photos of what he has, I can try to make a good determination of value. If there are quite a few of them, it could be in the cards for me to come up, evaluate them and purchase them as a package, which would save you the hassles of dealing with dozens of potential buyers, their questions, and the severe hassles of having to box and ship these delicate craft.

Please feel free to reach out any time to me at 239.877.4280 or by email at bob@rc-sub.com.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss and hope to hear from you soon.

Hello to all the RC sub enthusiasts here.

I have sad news to deliver. Thorbrandr (Chris Cox) was a member of this forum since about 2019, and he absolutely loved this hobby. He built several RC subs and was working on one more when he had a hemorrhagic stroke on Dec. 14, 2025. It was fairly mild and we caught it early. His prognosis was excellent, and over the following six weeks, he made great progress. It looked like he would have a near 100% recovery, and he was several days from being discharged home when he had a second brain bleed. I am sorry to say that he died from the second one on January 26, 2026. Please know that he enjoyed these forums and your company very much.

As referenced by my forum name, I was Thorbrandr's wife (Carter Cox in real life). I have all of Chris' RC subs, both the completed ones and the work in progress. I know Chris would have wanted the subs to go to folks who would appreciate them. If anyone is interested in them, I would be happy to discuss specifics about each one, and a fair valuation for completed models, parts, shipping, etc. Please note that I am NOT an expert in the technical specs like Chris was, but I'll do my best to give photos and dimensions if anyone is interested. My main concern is that the subs continue to be used and enjoyed.

Yours,
Carter Cox
I don't know where the idea came from, I am a fan of antique steam and diesel engines and maybe seen the concept there.

I may have had the idea before but didn't have the means to make it work.

I'm working on a 1/96 Los Angeles, and my initial plan was to make the sail planes functional by attaching them to the same control arm that will control the rear dive planes through means of a long linkage across the top of the hull on the inside, but the more I think about it... do actuating bow/sail planes really help and add controllability, or are they needless complication? I'm giving real thought to starting a 1/96 Alfa later this year, and I have a 1/144 Typhoon on the bench with the LA already, but the conundrum of functional forward planes is starting to rear up. I'm guessing for a bigger boat like the Typhoon having controllable bow planes to help that monster get under and stay under is a good thing, but for the LA... does it really make sense? Especially in a dynamic dive setup?

Thoughts, suggestions, and experience would be appreciated!
