Just watched a tour through the USS Blueback on Youtube. I thought that the diesel engines look kinda simlar to those on Gato class boats. So I lokked em up....Interesting: The Fairbanks Morse 38 8-1/8 diesel engin is the licensed US version of the German aircraft diesel Junkers Jumo 205 from 1936. The slightly modeified version 38ND 8-1/8 still serves on nuclear subs. So nuclear subs using an almost 100 year old German diesel engine design. As a German that makes me kinda proud....

I have not seen any feedback on Bob Martin’s snorkel - which, so far, will be used in my 1/72 Virginia class (with R&R wtc) shown below.

I have attached one of David M’s photos which I “think” includes s snorkel valve (or is it a device for lowering masts?). If a snorkel, are there drawings available or can one be purchased?

I would like to know what folks recommend for snorkels and if you have experience with Bob’s snorkel. Thank you.

I am looking for a photo of the sail on a Virginia class sub with all masts are retracted. I have searched - but to no avail.
Extended resin masts on a 1:72 sub seem highly susceptible to damage. I could scratch build more robust masts but first I would like to explore retracted masts - might be kind of different and look cool but not sure.

Thank you.
